The whole-house water purification system is an important part of modern families' pursuit of healthy drinking water experience. It can effectively filter out impurities, harmful substances, and bacteria from water, providing safer and healthier drinking water. The whole-house water purification system usually consists of multiple water purification equipment working together, with each equipment undertaking specific purification tasks. The following will introduce the connection sequence and operating principles of different water purification instruments in the whole-house water purification system.
1. Pretreatment Equipment
A whole-house water purification system usually starts from the water source and first passes through pretreatment equipment. The main task of pretreatment equipment is to remove large particles, silt, rust, and other substances from water. Common pretreatment equipment includes pre-filters, activated carbon filters, etc. These devices remove large particles from water through physical or chemical means to protect subsequent water purification equipment from damage.
2. Fine Filtration Equipment
After pretreatment, water enters the fine filtration equipment. These devices are mainly responsible for removing small particles, organic matter, heavy metals, and other substances from water. Common fine filtration equipment includes RO reverse osmosis membranes, nanofiltration membranes, etc. These devices filter out microorganisms and organic matter from water by utilizing the selective pore size of the membrane. RO reverse osmosis membranes can remove more than 95% of impurities in water, while nanofiltration membranes retain beneficial minerals for the human body and remove some heavy metals at the same time.
3. Activated Carbon Filter
After fine filtration, water enters the activated carbon filter. The activated carbon filter utilizes the adsorption properties of activated carbon to remove residual chlorine, odors, organic matter, and other substances from water. The pore structure of activated carbon can effectively adsorb harmful substances in water, making the water quality purer.
4. Softening Water Equipment
For hard water containing a high amount of calcium and magnesium ions, a softening water equipment needs to be added to the purification system. Softening water equipment removes calcium and magnesium ions from water through ion exchange resins, thereby reducing water hardness, reducing scale formation, and improving the taste and usage experience of water.
5. Pure Water or Drinking Water Machines
Finally, water enters the home for use through pure water or drinking water machines. These devices are usually equipped with ultrafiltration membranes to further remove microorganisms and trace organic matter from water, ensuring that the water quality meets direct drinking standards. Some high-end water purification systems may also include ultraviolet sterilization lamps to further enhance the safety of water quality.
Operating Principle
Each water purification equipment operates on a different principle, but the common goal is to remove harmful substances from water and improve water quality. Pretreatment equipment removes large particles; fine filtration equipment removes small particles and organic matter; activated carbon filters remove residual chlorine and odors; softening water equipment removes calcium and magnesium ions; and pure water or drinking water machines further purify water quality through ultrafiltration membranes and/or ultraviolet sterilization.
The successful implementation of a whole-house water purification system depends not only on the selection and installation of various equipment but also on reasonable design and maintenance. Regular inspections and replacement of filter cores are crucial to ensure that each device operates normally, maintaining the effectiveness of the whole-house water purification system.
